Following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album So Vanilla, which came out last year via London tastemaker label Speedy Wunderground, London-based Austrian-Brazilian artist Viji has announced details of a deluxe edition featuring brand new remixes and acoustic versions of a several fan favourites.

The new album has continued to see Viji – real name Vanilla Jenner – move on an incendiary upward trajectory with the lead single ‘Sedative’ landing on the BBC Radio 6 Music A-list, as well as a Jack Saunders BBC Radio 1 Maida Vale session, and press support from the likes of NME, DIY, Dork, CLASH, ASBO, The Line Of Best Fit, Louder, Louder Than War, The New Cue, Loud & Quiet, So Young, and many more.

Since the release of the album, Viji has showed no signs of slowing down with packed out live dates across the world, including UK tours with Baby Queen, Citizen, and Drug Church, as well as ten shows across Austin, a show in LA, and appearances across The Line Of Best Fit’s Five Day Forecast, Eurosonic, Simple Things Festival, London Calling, and Printemps de Bourges festival in France. Next week Viji will also head out on a run of UK tour dates with lauded Australian guitar-pop duo Royel Otis. Full dates are as follows:

9th July - O2 Academy Bournemouth
10th July - O2 Academy Oxford
11th July - Foundry, Sheffield
12th July -  Arts Club, Liverpool

The new deluxe edition of So Vanilla – out 5th July – features three new remixes by Vanilla, Me Jesmay, and Dan Carey, as well as three acoustic reworkings of key singles. Today, Viji releases ‘Sundress In Pink (Acoustic Version)’ alongside a live performance video. Speaking on the track she says, “for the stripped back session of ‘Sundress In Pink’ we got to use the beautiful showroom at Fender. Shooting there was really special, there’s a beautiful stained-glass window in the background and we got to use all of the custom shop guitars. We were like kids in a candy shop!”

Going on to speak about the deluxe edition, Viji says “it’s been just over half a year since the album came out. So many things have happened since then, going on a month-long support tour in the UK, playing in the Netherlands twice and France, we got to debut in America playing 10 shows at SXSW in 4 days. We all flew out and played LA for the first and whilst driving back home heard my song on SoCal radio. I’m happy for all of these experiences, and I got the chance to rework some of the songs for the Deluxe version. The remixes of Blanket, Down and Karaoke were so fun to do, and I got to collaborate with some of my favourite people. Me Jesmay is a new friend but connecting with her added exactly what the remix needed. Her vocals are affirmative and sexy. The ending lyrics of her feature going like ‘To com md na bag que é pra me deixa louquinha’ ‘I have md in my bag that’s for making me crazy’. Next time I go to Brazil we are partying!

So Vanilla was recorded predominantly in London, in partnership with four-time Mercury Prize nominated producer and Speedy Wunderground label head, Dan Carey (Fontaines D.C., Kae Tempest, Wet Leg). Her approach to shoe-gazy rock, raw instrumentals and vocal delivery makes her stand out as one of the most exciting UK artists to watch, pioneering what rock music can sound like in the modern era.

With this deluxe edition and more live dates in the works – inc. an appearance at Deershed festival next month – Viji is less a one to watch, but more a one to chase.
