Today, Teesside’s Benefits have shared a new song titled ‘Blame’. The track is taken from the band's highly anticipated second album, ‘Constant Noise’, which is out tomorrow via Invada Records (BEAK>, Billy Nomates, and more).
‘Constant Noise’ marks a bold new chapter for Benefits, building on the intensity of their widely acclaimed 2023 debut NAILS while pushing into uncharted sonic territory. Now operating as a two-piece—vocalist Kingsley Hall and electronic mastermind Robbie Major—the band embraces a darker, bass-heavy sound, fusing dance-inflected rhythms with industrial undercurrents. This evolution has been reignited a flame amongst the band’s fervent fanbase and music press alike, with ‘Constant Noise’ earning rave reviews and Album Of The Week accolades across major publications worldwide including support from Electronic Sound, Louder Than War, Uncut, DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, The Quietus, NME, Rolling Stone UK, Vive Le Rock, The Skinny, NARC, and many more.
The album also boasts an incredibly diverse roster of friends and guest musicians from The Libertine’s Peter Doherty to Therapy?’s Neil Cooper, Middlesborough rapper Shakk, Archfemmesis vocalist Zera Tønin, and guest producers James Adrian Brown (ex-Pulled Apart By Horses, now electronic/tape loops/noise artist) and James Welsh (signed to Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label).
The latter of those collaborators worked alongside the band on their euphoric new song ‘Blame’, which was premiered by Huw Stephen's on BBC Radio 6 Music last night. The track sees the duo channeling the sound of the dancefloor with propulsive bass-forward nods to the likes of Underworld, as Hall unleashes an exasperated monologue about the distorted realities that so many find themselves in as a result of the discourse in the media around them.
Speaking about the track Hall explains: "Robbie sent me an mp3 one Friday night and it was incredible. The demo was chopped, lyrics clad on and was pretty much complete by midnight. We sent it to James Welsh to wave his magic dance wand over it and bingo. Leftfield, Trainspotting soundtrack, Gazelles, poppers etc. it’s all there. Hope you like it."
The song is also accompanied by a new video, which the band recorded in the middle of the night with local filmmaker John Kirkbride, featuring Martin Fox.
